Tesla Recalls Model 3 Due to Child Seat Safety Issue
Are you confident in your child’s safety in your Tesla Model 3?
Is your Tesla Model 3 keeping your little ones safe? Well, if you own one of the Highland grades that were delivered in December 2023, you might want to pay attention. Tesla has issued a recall for over 500 Model 3 vehicles due to a lack of accessible top-tether child seat anchor point in the rear-centre seating position.
The Australian government’s Vehicle Recalls website states that the rear centre seat position of the Model 3 does not meet the requirements of Australia Design Rule (ADR) 34/03. This means that it does not have an accessible top-restraint anchorage point.
Without this anchorage point, it is not possible to securely attach an infant or child car seat restraint to the rear-centre seat. As a result, Tesla is advising affected vehicle owners to refrain from installing a child seat in that position until the issue is fixed.
Tesla has taken responsibility for the issue and will be reaching out to affected vehicle owners to schedule a service appointment. During this appointment, a part replacement will be carried out to provide access to the rear-centre seat top-tether restraint anchorage.
The Vehicle Recalls website emphasizes the importance of not using the rear-centre seat for securing a child car seat, and not attaching an infant or child car seat restraint to the top-tether anchorage until the fix is completed.
If you own one of the affected Model 3 vehicles, you can contact the Tesla Australia customer service centre at 1800 646 952 for further assistance.
